Smart Pension appointed by Evri to provide workplace pension scheme

Evri’s self-employed workers will get access to the award-winning Smart Pension

Smart Pension will provide access to a workplace pension for more than 12,000 “self-employed plus” couriers at Evri, the biggest dedicated parcel delivery company in the UK, formerly known as Hermes UK, who work alongside 80% of the UK’s top retail brands including Next, ASOS and John Lewis.

The appointment comes after the announcement by Evri that it will automatically enrol self-employed plus couriers in a workplace pension scheme, a move welcomed by the GMB union as a “massive step forward”. Couriers will be enrolled into the Smart Pension Master Trust by the end of 2022, benefitting from a real-time pension they can access anywhere via the web and mobile devices, powered by Smart’s multi award-winning technology platform Keystone. Under the agreement, Evri’s self-employed plus couriers will also be able to continue to manage their savings beyond retirement using Smart Pension’s innovative ‘Smart Retire’ technology.

Jamie Fiveash, CEO at Smart UK, said:

“We are delighted to be appointed by a household name such as Evri. Once again Smart Pension is at the vanguard of helping companies and individuals save for their retirement. This appointment is a testament to the commitment and quality of the Smart Pension Master Trust and the offering that is available to its almost 1 million members. Evri’s self-employed plus couriers will now have access to an award-winning pension scheme, including Smart Retire and a number of other financial wellbeing offerings.”

Conor Ormsby, Director of Delivery at Evri, added:

“After a long and diligent process, we are pleased to select Smart Pension as the provider of pensions to our self-employed plus couriers. Smart Pension has a great offering with huge amounts of flexibility and first class technology to make life simple, with a truly excellent support team.”
When we first announced our SE+ model in 2019 we committed to continuing to develop our support for our self-employed couriers and we are proud to have been true to that and be leading the industry once again. Our couriers receive guaranteed pay rates, paid holiday and now a pension but have also been able to retain the flexibility that so many treasure, fitting in their deliveries alongside their other (often family) commitments.”

Smart Pension is powered by Smart’s proprietary retirement technology, Keystone by Smart. Keystone powers the pension technology for more than 1 million members around the world through partnerships with government institutions and commercial entities.
